Growing in Arizona: Allspice is an extremely versatile tree - it's flavor is similar to a mix of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The berries are ground and used to flavor meats, pickles and soups. The leaves which have a rich/strong aroma are also used as a rub flavor into meats, teas as well as other culinary uses. Oils extracted are also used in perfumes. In certain parts of the world, the leaves are placed throughout the floor of the chapel when couples are being married and - as the guests trample on the leaves - the entire chapel is consumed by the strong perfume scent of Allspice. Great for container growing. Needs shade when hot. Extremely fragrant!
